Council Minutes of 6/4/2002 <br />~„ President O'Grady made the following announcements: 1) There is one more regulazly <br />scheduled Council meeting on June 18 prior to Council's annual vacation during the <br />month of July. <br />2) Ordinance 2002-91 will be passed under suspension of the rules. <br />3) Acommittee-of--the-whole meeting will be held on June 19 at 7 p.m. to discuss the <br />prepazation of legislation. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Musial: 1) He is pleased to announce that the contingency project involving <br />Lorain Road has been approved by the Ohio Public Works Commission in the amount of <br />$1,542,384. It is a 90/10 project, and the city's shaze is 10%. This is good leveraging of <br />our money. This project is for curbs, storms, sidewalks, aprons from the western line of <br />North Olmsted to Brookpark Road and will be accomplished in tandem with the <br />previously approved Issue 2 funding of roughly $1.49 million, which is an 80/20 funding <br />with the city contributing 20%. <br />2) A very successful Memorial Day ceremony was held on May 27. Bob Whiting, <br />commander of VFW Post 7647, coordinated the events which included flag raising <br />ceremonies at the Old Town Hall, ceremonies at Coe Cemetery and Butternut Ridge <br />Cemetery, and a parade from the bus line parking lot to the North Olmsted Pazk for a <br />Memorial Day ceremony. <br />3) On May 30, the Senior Center co-sponsored with the retired senior volunteer program <br />a luncheon honoring the senior volunteers over the last yeaz. Many awards were <br />presented including presentations to volunteers Betty Gallagher who has logged 839 1!4 <br />hours of volunteer time, Grace McNeff who volunteered 517 hours, Jean Cermak with <br />458 hours of volunteer time and Kitty Angle with 430 1/2 hours of volunteer time. <br />4) Due to increase in costs, Alexander's Restaurant elected to terminate services for <br />providing hot lunches to the Senior Center at $3.75 per meal. While continuing to <br />investigate other vendors, we negotiated with Springvale to provide hot lunches at $4.25 <br />per meal from June 6 through August 29, 2002. This action was approved by the Senior <br />Advisory Council. We will continue to pursue other vendors during this time period <br />while evaluating Springvale's aspects and activities in this azea. <br />5) There were more than 500 meals served at the Springvale Mother's Day brunch. For <br />Father's Day, a rib and chicken dinner will be held. <br />6) The Recreation Center was closed today, June 4, for repairs to the electrical system. <br />Harrington Electric is replacing the electrical panel which was damaged over the winter. <br />Services will return to normal tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5. <br />7) The Fire Department received three grants from the State of Ohio for EMS purposes, <br />including $1,439.75 for computers, $1,200 for executive fire officer training and $4,185 <br />for emergency response for terrorism training. <br />8) The Rec Center's outdoor pool is scheduled to open Monday, June 10. Inclement <br />weather has hampered the repairs required to open the pool. <br />9) Advertisements for bids aze being published this week for the new tennis courts at <br />North Olmsted Park. Construction should begin some time in July. The Service <br />Department will remove the old tennis courts as well as resurface the existing basketball <br />courts. <br />2 <br />
