Public Hearing of 11/18/2003
Shirley Kronz, 5558 Revere, said she was concerned about property values. She would
like the tower back by the highway. Why put a 120 foot tower in a residential area?
Councilman Limpert said the towers are regulated by federal law. President O'Grady
said we can regulate for safety, etc but we cannot restrict.
Robert McFarland, 5492 Revere, is concerned about safety. He believes kids will try to
climb it. There are children living in this area and trucks and people will be going in and
out of there.
Dave Richards answered that service on the facility is done once a month by a technician,
and 95% of the maintenance is on the Bound level. The site will have an 8 foot fence
and landscaping. The first peg starts at the 20 foot level.
Bob Puinno, 27181 Gloucester, asked why this had to go in a residential area.
Dave Richards answered that, prior to settling on this location, they looked at six
different sites for this structure. For various reasons this site was chosen. The setback
from the nearest residential property lines are over 300 feet. This tower will replace a
light pole that is akeady there at the football field. A preliminary study by the FAA
shows no need to have a light on all the time.
Helen Garber, 27187 Gloucester, said the tower would be in her backyard, and it's not in
her best interests.
Don Stalter, asked Mr. Richards to talk about utilities. Would there be a backup
generator?
Dave Richards said there will be no additional light around the base. The base will be 8
feet with landscaping. The tower will be obscure to most of the area. There are no plans
for a backup generator.
Henry Caster, 27501 Butternut Ridge, asked how notice was given. The Clerk explained
it was advertised in the newspaper and everyone within 1,000 feet of the area was
notified.
President O'Grady said that the ordinance would return to the BZD Committee on
Monday, December 1, at 7 p.m. and the Sprint representatives are invited to attend.
Councilman Gareau explained that notice for the Planning Commission is different as
only the adjacent property owners are notified.
Councilman Limpert suggested the residents share the information about the committee
meeting with their neighbors.

4
