Council Minutes of 10/21/2003
services that the city should be providing, what is the amount we should have? There is
no strategic plan in place and there should be one made.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane:
^ He is very concerned about the condition of Claque Road and the sidewalks which
have been laying under water because the street is high. He had hope that the city
and the residents would come together to get some outside funding to fix it. Last
week he saw city crews spending budget hours digging holes and laying plastic pipe
to cover the ditches and putting in sewer drains. The city is putting in pipes on a
street that is going to be ripped up some day soon. This is mismanagement.
^ Regarding the old library site, he feels that the city should keep it and lease it to the
schools for $1 a year. That would give the city breathing room and the ability to
recover it in the future if needed. Mr. Miller said he had previously reported that the
schools clearly stated they have no intention to lease the building. They only want to
buy the property.
^ Regarding the resolution suggested by the Council President honoring dignitaries
from Ireland that was not accepted, he believes it should have been introduced out of
respect for the many residents in the area of Irish background. Diversity is a key
word, and this is a diverse community.
Don Pangrac, 23470 Sharon Drive:
^ He asked the Mayor to put him on the mailing list for a copy of the water report.
Five years ago to the day, he spoke with the Mayor to get that started. He thinks
there is nothing like competition to lower rates. Several years ago when the steel
companies closed down, Cleveland was scrambling deciding what they were going to
do with the excess capacity of water because steel companies were a major user. He
assumes they have rolled the revenues they used to get from the steel companies, and
we are all paying for that. It is important for us to continue to look for alternate
supplies of water in hopes of using it as leverage to get some decent rates from
Cleveland.
^ As to the old library building-rumor has it the schools want to tear the building
down and put a football field there. This information should be verified. Councilman
Dailey said that information goes back a few years when he was on the school board.
They did have some plan studies that were done, and there were a myriad of options
presented. One of them did show the football field being closer to Butternut Ridge
Road in the area of the existing library. If the schools are planning to put
administrative offices in the building, he does not believe they would tear it down for
a football field.
Michael Wood, 363 Vista Circle, is happy about the repairs to south Canterbury Road
and also for the repairs to the parking lot at Springvale. He wondered if revenue is
derived from the ballroom as the parking lot is always full. Mayor Musial said the
ballroom is making money, anticipated revenue is about four hundred thousand dollars a
year with a net profit of roughly 30%, about a hundred and twenty thousand dollars.
Right now, the ballroom is supporting the golf course. We do aYrticipate that eventually
the golf course will be adding to the revenue. Mr. Wood agreed and thinks $4 million
15
