Council Minutes of May 20, 2003
sump pump, but the biggest pump in the world would not have handled what was in his
basement. He rented a gas pump which ran for hours. With all due respect to the Mayor,
inverters and generators are all good ideas. But with what he pays in sewer assessment
fees, he shouldn't have to buy an inverter. If he is not home, an inverter won't work. He
should not have to buy gas generator. He wants to know what happened to the pumps on
Dover Center Road and what is going to be done about it. Mayor Musial said the sump
pump should only be taking care of storm water. President O'Grady asked the City
Engineer to address the problem of infiltration. Mr. Durbin said he had not heard of this
problem until now. First, if electricity went off, it caused the electricity to go out at the
power station, where it got a power surge. There may be an internal recycle on the
pumps. It sounds like there is infiltration or cross connects from storm into the sanitary,
which is causing an overload everywhere. The problem could be upstream of the sanitary
sewer causing an overload of that system. Councilman Miller asked if the lift station has
as an alternate generator. Mayor Musial said there aze three diesel engines which aze
supposed to come on automatically. Mr. Miller suggested this issue be brought into
committee, and the residents should be invited to attend the meeting. Mr. O'Grady
ageed and asked the administration to notify when they aze ready to respond and a
meeting will be scheduled.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane
^ Noted that plugging an inverter into a car cigazette lighter would not be safe and may
start a fire.
^ The grass at the old Ground Round restaurant was very high and is an eyesore.
Councilman Gareau said that he had turned in a high grass complaint on that
property, and he understands there is a possible project in the works for that site. Mr.
Lambert and Mr. Gareau agreed that the exterior of the Speedway gas station in that
area could be improved. The sidewalk is in poor shape, there is a lazge pile of mulch
for sale on the property and there aze at least 12 temporary signs on the pazcel. Mr.
Nashaz noted that signs are also popping up at the Marathon station at Porter and
Lorain. Also, the Speedway station at Brookpazk and Lorain is to be demolished and
a new building and sidewalks will be put in.
^ He recently had a problem regarding a Service issue. His complaint was solved
rather rapidly. Thanks to Mr. Jesse who was available, and within two hours the
problem was resolved. His actions were beyond the call of duty considering what we
have been facing in the past with responses.
Don Pangrac, 23470 Sharon Drive
^ Regazding appearance of the community, his offer to get a group of volunteers
together to clean up Claque and I-480 still stands. This is a gateway to the
community, and he would be glad to help clean it up.
^ Monday, May 26, is a holiday, and the sign at Claque and I-480 says no right turn on
weekdays. Does it apply to the holiday on Monday? Law Director Dubelko said he
did not believe anybody is going to be ticketed. If it doesn't provide for exceptions
for holidays, you might believe that the Police Dept. would exercise restraint in
ticketing on a holiday

9
