FINANCE MEETING
February 25, 2004
Finance Committee met on February 25. Present were members Kasler, Gareau
and Limpert, Councilman Dailey, Safety Director Jesse, Chief Ruple, Chief Klecan
and resident Paul Barker. (Should be noted at some, point that Councilman Miller
called to say that he -has been ill, and was unable to attend several of the
appropriations meetings.)
Discussed this evening first was the Safety Department and Divisions. Notable
discussions included:
1. the need to replace the city's 911 system for approximately
$ 35,000. The committee asked for details and a proposal.
2. Removal of $ 2000 from the arbitration line item in the
police department
3. It was noted that one full time dispatcher left and has not
been replaced, however part time officers has increased
`„<,.
`'"~"" 4. $ 500 was added to the Safety Town line item.
5. A concern was expressed regarding copier expenses and the
administration was asked to review this expense city wide
b. In the Fire department budget, it was determined that the
fire fighters had 49 men about 2 years ago, lost 3 through
attrition and are now requesting that those 3 be replaced.
Based on the financial situation of the city and the need to
tighten belts in every department, Council is considering
this request and the possibility that it may Gave to be
denied. It was pointed out that the addition of 3 additional
men did nat reduce the overtime request, as might be
expected.
7. Testing for a fire fighter was discussed. The proposal was
to hire men provisionally and simultaneously create a test
for the position as required.
8. It was noted that in considering the budget, it should be
noted that there is $75,000 in banked overtime on the books
in the Fire department that can be called in at anytime.
.. ,
