FINANCE MEETING
February 28, 2004
Present were committee members, Kasler, Gareau and Limpert, Directors of Finance,
Safety, Service, the Mayor and guests.
Various funds in the Service department were discussed. Of note is the following:
1) Line 1144: This referred to a request for $ 50,000 for repair of a metal
box culvert on Bradley Road. Questions arose regarding whether the
County has any funding responsibility, whether the city has funding
responsibility, and if so ,how much. The figure was put on hold for
further information. It was later removed as it was unsubstantiated at this
time.
2) In the Street Maintenance Fund, the Service Director requested ,out of
a figure of $ 94,000, $ 40,000 for the purchase of 3 new vehicles to
replace those presently used by Street Maintenance, Springvale and the
Sign Department. With intentions to repair some of the older vehicles,
and trade in one or two, the new trucks would be used by the Service
Foreman, The Forester and the Building Maintenance supervisor at the
Recreation Center. These vehicles would be "take home" vehicles.
This plan was questioned first for the trade in value and whether it
would not be more prudent to maintain that vehicle rather than trade it
in for the minimal trade in value, and second in relation to the use of
the new vehicles as "take home" trucks. The necessity to take these
home was questioned, as well as the additional wear and tear on the
vehicles that results from this policy.
3) Recreation:
A discussion took place regarding the request for $ 50,000 for cleaning
services at the Rec Center. Council requested information regarding
the contract, terms of the contract, validity of the contract, length of
the contract and further requested that this be referred to the law
department for review.
A suggestion was made that a sign be considered for Lorain Road and
a reasonable proposal be presented to Council
Further, Councilman Gareau requested that the Rec Commissioner
provide his proposal for expending monies designated to Claque and
North Olmsted Parks.
~~,~..f~
w, ~
