Council Minutes of 10/18/2005
good can come out of this, and it may be a more neighborly situation with regards to the
property in between Suburban Collision Center and the residential development. The
motion passed with four yes votes and three no votes. Councilman Gareau commented
that the Mayor has communicated to Council that one thing that will come of this is a
review of the procedures and process. There were missteps along the way that
inconvenienced the residents, inconvenienced the applicant, and to some extent
inconvenienced Council. This will be corrected, and it will not happen again. With
respect to those involved in the process, their input was appreciated. They have
conducted themselves at all times as professionals and really showed what it means to be
. involved when you have concerns. Thank you. Mayor O'Grady said he would simply
echo Mr. Gareau's words.
Councilman Ryan, chairperson of the Intra-Governmental Relations Committee: 1) The
committee met on October 11, 2005. Agenda items were as follows:
• Interview of David Wahl, the Mayor's appointment to the Cultural
Activities Commission. Mr. Wahl is an excellent appointee, and the
committee unanimously recommended Mr. Wahl for the appointment.
Councilman Ryan moved that Council approve the appointment of David
Wahl to the Cultural Activities Commission for the remainder of the term
which ends on December 31, 2005. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Barker and passed unanimously.
• Resolution No. 2005-144, a resolution authorizing and directing the
Director of Planning to make application on behalf of the City of North
Olmsted for Community Development Block Grant funds for the fiscal
year 2006 for the HUD/Cuyahoga County Exterior Maintenance Program
and declaring an emergency. This program is used for the residential area
of the city, and last year was used for replacement of roofs. Last year, the
city received approximately $20,000, and it is hoped the amount received
this year will be approximately $75,000 to again be used for roof
replacement. The committee recommended approval of the legislation.
• Resolution 2005-145, a resolution authorizing and directing the Director
of Planning to make application on behalf of the City of North Olmsted
for Community Development Block Grant funds for the fiscal year 2006
for handicapped accessibility improvements to the North Olmsted Park
and declaring an emergency. The presentation on improvements to be
carried out in the park area was excellent. After discussion about the
different plans that were available, the committee recommended approval
of the plan that had been presented. We are seeking funds up to $150,000.
The committee recommended approval of the legislation.
Councilman Barker, Council's representative to the Landmarks Commission: 1) The
commission is considering placing a plaque on North Olmsted Middle School. The
commission will get in touch with Superintendent Stanic regarding future plans for the
middle school if the bond issue passes. 2) The commission will contact the former owner
of the Stearns house property to discuss saving the original portion of the Stearns home.
7
.sue-~,,,s>.~a~;~.
t. ~ ..
