Council Minutes of 10/4/2005
Orlowski, yes; Ryan, no; Tallon, yes. The motion passed with six yes votes and one no
vote.
Councilman Ryan moved that the matter of Suburban Collision Center be postponed to a
date certain of October 18, 2005. The motion was seconded by Councilman Miller. Roll
call: Ryan, yes, with comment he believes this is an important enough matter to his ward
that Council should be at least properly informed when someone makes any type of
indication they are going to expand the ~uare footage on anon-conforming building.
Council should be notified and should have the opportunity to decide whether or not to
go forward. Roll call continued: Miller, yes; Barker, no; Orlowski, yes; Nashar, yes;
Tallon, yes; Gareau, yes, with comment that these are interesting issues that have been
brought up. But he does remember that at the first BZD Committee meeting, which went
on for two hours, there were three members of Council present-the committee members.
He wishes some of these issues had been brought up at a more apropos time so that they
could have been more thoroughly addressed as opposed to postponing it to a date certain.
The motion passed with six yes votes and one no vote.
Law Director Dubelko said he would provide written legal advice to City Council
regarding the special permit process, providing that he can determine what happened.
Councilman Tallon, chairperson of the Finance Committee: 1) Thank you to the Council
members who attended the Finance 101 Committee-of--the-Whole meeting. It was very
successful and informative. Thank you to Finance Director Copfer for taking the time to
make the presentation.
Councilman Miller, member of the Recreation Commission meeting: 1) The Recreation
Commission met last night to discuss various issues:
• General financial status of the Recreation Dept. Recreation Commissioner
DiSalvo summarized the department was basically on target for the year with
projections. They are slightly under because of the issues with the pool closings
earlier in the year and some financial rebates that had to be made.
• The bleachers are not yet in the North Olmsted Park as were appropriated earlier
in the year.
• The Rec Dept. is wrestling with the issue of making the Recreation building
itself, as well as their programs, more appealing to the younger families with
kids.
• A discussion and explanation of the repairs to the pool roof, which are on the
agenda this evening, was given to all of the Recreation Commission. There was
not a formal vote to approve or recommend approval; however, there was a
consensus that it was a plan that needed to go forward.
• Discussion of the parking lot condition.
• A lengthy discussion of the fence for Diamond 1, the costs of which will be paid
for by a combination of the high school and Hot Stove. It was recommended by
all of the Recreation Commission that the issue be referred to the Law
Department by the high school to discuss issues of liability, ownership, removal,
advertising, etc.
12
