Council Minutes of 6/21/2Q05
people and real families. Among the suburbs, North. Olmsted has the greatest number of
DFAS employees.
7) Planning Department update: We are very proud that the Master Plan is to be adopted
today. He commends Kim Wenger for her work. The document will go to print once
legislation is signed. The Recreation Plan RFP's were mailed out on Friday, June 17, for
planning and design services and aze due back by Tuesday, June 12. With regard to the
front entrance project, the Planning Commission reviewed possible designs and offered
input at their last meeting. A meeting is scheduled with Service, Engineering and
Middough Consulting to better define revised scope of services for interior work.
Information will be available for Board of Control consideration next Tuesday. With
regazd to CDBG, the Planning and HR Directors attended the annual municipal grant
seminar held by the Cuyahoga County Department of Development at Westlake
Community Center last Tuesday, June 14. The CDBG Citizens Advisory Committee will
begin work on FY06 grant applications in July. At the seminar, additional opportunities
for the city to participate in the Storefront Renovation Program next year were discussed.
For the Exterior Maintenance Grant Program, four households have been identified to
participate in the roof replacement program far 2005. Property Maintenance Inspector
Schneider is currently working with these homeowners, and the properties are all located
in the city's Improvement Tazget Areas. In addition to the $20,000 county grant, an
additional $2,000 was donated by NOFI. Should there be funds remaining after these
four homes are improved, other applicants maybe served.
8) Human Resources/Community Life Services Department update: The city has signed
on for a project through the county in conjunction with Solutions at Work (SAW), Inc. It
will provide a no-cost cleanup for the yards of seniors in the designated ITAs. The
service is done once-a-year, to ideally help with spring cleanup. SAW is part of the
Cuyahoga County Board of Mental Retardation Developmental Disabilities. The
department is also exploring an opportunity for seniors to buy prescription drugs through
a county program at a sizeable discount. More information will be provided to Council
as it becomes available.
9) Service Department update: The department continues to work on the placement of
the Barton/Bradley waterline. We will be working with NOSO representatives to guide
them in the use of the sprinkler system. NOSO representatives have requested that the
sprinkling system be delivered to the soccer field this Friday, June 24. The Service
Department will service and deliver the equipment and will also be on hand to help make
the trial run a success. Additionally, we do intend to have two sprinklers set up. One
sprinkler again tapping in off the lines coming into the restroom area, those lines that are
properly used for drinking water at the proper pressure. We envision a pad right off that
area and then one further down the path along where the first pad is presently positioned.
10) The Art Selection Committee met on Thursday, June 9, and approved the purchase
of the first piece of art for the North Olmsted Library. The as yet untitled 4' X 14'
painting will depict the transport and arrival of 500 books to the library by Mr. Aaron
Olmsted in 1829. (The Ox Cart Library)
11) Concrete work was completed on the Rec Center outdoor pool on June 14 as
scheduled. This repair should be considered alive-year fix. The Recreation Department
is caulking, planting and preparing the pool to open next Monday, June 27.
Ldp
3
