MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />AUGUST 15, 2006 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Dailey Jones, Miller, Orlowski, Ryan <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />Absent: Council Member Tallon <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of August 1, 2006 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage <br />under suspension of the rules: second reading, Ordinance 2006-138; first reading: <br />Resolutions 2006-143, 2006-144 and Ordinances 2006-145, 2006-146. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) Recognized Nayeli Quintanar from the State University of Hidalgo, <br />Mexico. Senora Quintanar is a professor who teaches English at the State University of <br />Hidalgo and is in the United States to teach Spanish at all levels through the Fulbright <br />Scholarship Program. At no cost to the North Olmsted Schools, we have a spectacular <br />instructor who will not only teach the mechanics of the Spanish language but also their <br />rich culture and history. Senora Quintanar is accompanied by her husband Luis and two <br />children. Welcome to the Quintanar family. <br />2) A public meeting for the Recreation Master Plan will be held on Thursday, August 17, <br />at 7 p.m. at the North Olmsted High School cafetorium. Our consultant team will present <br />various park concepts and recreation center scenarios for public input. In addition to the <br />surveys at this meeting, any resident who is unable to attend but wants to provide input <br />can do so through the city website. <br />3) As president of the Westshore Council of Governments, he is pleased to announce we <br />have been successful in securing a number of Homeland Security grants through the <br />State. One was for the purchase of an Allen Vanguard Mark IV robot to be used by our <br />Westshore Enforcement Bureau to respond to bomb threats or hazmat situations. A <br />demonstration of this system will be held on Thursday, August 17, at Rocky River Civic <br />Center. Contact Mayor's office or Safety Director's office for more information. <br />
