Council Minutes of 10/7/2008 <br />referred to our insurer for defense. An appearance has been made in the case by <br />our insurance defense counsel. <br />2) The Fair Housing Review Board is continuing to investigate an allegation of housing <br />discrimination in the city made by a married couple with disabilities who are residents of <br />a condominium located in the city. The complaint was initially received by HUD and <br />referred to the city under our grant agreement for investigation. <br />3) The Fair Housing Review Board in conjunction with the Housing Research and <br />Advocacy Center is sponsoring a free continuing legal education class on fair housing for <br />local real estate agents. Real estate agents in Ohio are required to take 30 hours of <br />continuing education every three years and three of those hours must focus on fair <br />housing and civil rights. The class will be taught by Assistant Law Director Carole <br />Heyward as well as by staff from the housing center. The class will be held on October <br />22, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the North Olmsted Library. All are welcome. RSVP's <br />should be made to Vicki Flash in the Law Dept. <br />4) Prosecutor's report: total of 193 cases prosecuted in Rocky River Municipal Court <br />during the month of September; 101 were Traffic cases; 92 were General Offense cases; <br />no trials. <br />In the absence of Finance Director Copfer, Acting Clerk Donna Murphy read her report: <br />1) The annual information filing was submitted to the required agencies on September 25. <br />This is required by our bond covenants to provide continued disclosure to the bond <br />holders via certain agencies. <br />2) On September 25, the August monthly financial reports were sent to the Mayor, <br />Council and Directors via paper and/or email. <br />3) The audit for 2007 has finally been officially released by the Auditor of State and is <br />available on their website as of September 30. It is on our city website under <br />departments and then under the Finance tab. <br />4) She participated in the disaster training exercise the Safety Department coordinated. It <br />was ahands-on exercise in responding to a disaster that included every aspect of <br />government, even the finances angle how we would account for time, mutual aid <br />deployment, supplies, etc. It was an informative afternoon. <br />5) As required by contract, she attended the Fire Division Safe Staffing meeting on <br />October 2. After 45 minutes of discussion, there was a unanimous vote to cease having <br />meetings until the outcome of the Westshore communities study operating as a fire <br />district is complete. <br />6) Along with Nicole Dailey Jones, she represented the city well as two of the speakers at <br />the first North Olmsted High School Women in Leadership forum yesterday. With the <br />elections being high on their priority list, they decided to start with women in politics. It <br />is an amazing group of young ladies who are all seniors this year and have great goals for <br />themselves as they start looking ahead to the world of college and career. Their parents <br />should be proud. It was her privilege to speak with them. <br />4 <br /> <br />
