<br />Council Minutes of 8/5/2008 <br /> <br />training on August 28 for landlords on appropriate tenant selection policies. Also, a <br />seminar for area residents on how to avoid predatory loans will be held on September 4. <br />Fair Housing seminars for realtars for continuing education credits will be held on <br />October 23. More information will be forthcoming. <br />6) Prosecutor Mike Gordillo's report: June, 256 cases, of which 123 were General <br />Offenses and 233 were Traffic, and there were no trials; July, a total of 240 cases, of <br />which 134 were General Offenses and 106 Traffic, and there were no trials. <br />(Congratulations to the Gordillo family who welcomed twin girls on July 21.) <br />Councilman Barker questioned the status of the water study which the city is doing <br />jointly with Westlake. Mayor O'Grady said the water study should have concluded about <br />two weeks ago but is still continuing. He will make sure that Council is notified once the <br />results are received.. <br />Finance Director Copfer: 1) Finance Dept. implemented, in conjunction with the Safety <br />Dept., the fire false alarm billing. It was implemented through MUNIS and is going <br />smoothly so far. <br />2) Had two mediations sessions with the ClericaUTech union and three mediation <br />sessions with the Service union with one more scheduled for this Friday with Service. <br />3) The payroll bookkeeper computed the retro pay for the fire fighters, and they received <br />retro pay on July 25. <br />4) Records Commission passed the Human Resources and Safety Directors' departments. <br />City Council will be reviewed at the next meeting. <br />5) With the retirement of Joan Fletcher in Building and Engineering, the Finance Dept. <br />has taken on the functions of accounting for Engineering deposits and charges against <br />those deposits. <br />6) The audit was completed for the financial statements for December 31, 2007 and were <br />sent to the Auditor of State's office before June 30. She has not received word if it has <br />been released publicly yet. <br />7) Prepared the Engineering analysis which was distributed to Council and will be <br />discussed in committee. <br />8) Prepared the tax budget for 2009. <br />9) Closed June, and the financial reports were placed in Council's mailboxes this <br />evening. She expects to go over the June 30 review at the committee meeting next <br />Monday. <br />10) The transfer ordinance was a relatively complicated balancing act. It will also be <br />discussed in committee. Thanks to the Assistant Finance Director for working on the <br />legislation while the Finance Director was on vacation. <br />Councilman Gareau, chairperson of the Finance Committee: 1) Finance Committee met <br />on June 25, 2008 at 8 p.m. and concluded at 8:5 p.m. Present were Council Members <br />Barker, Orlowski, Gareau, Kearney and Mahoney; the Safety Director and Finance <br />Director. Five pieces of legislation were on the agenda, and Ordinances 2008-92, <br />2008-93, 2008-94, and 200$-95 were held in committee and scheduled for further review. <br />• Resolution 2008-91 authorizing the Mayor to enter into atwo-year contract with <br />Thomson West for the purpose of providing Westlaw on-line legal research <br />6 <br />
