k` <br />~ ~. <br />~, <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 80- 123 <br />BY: JANET SARINGER <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING INCREASES IN SERVICE RATES <br />FOR NATURAL GAS AS PROPOSED BY THE EAST OHIO GAS <br />COMPANY BEFORE THE OHIO PUBLIC UTILITY COMMISSION. <br />WHEREAS, the East Ohio Gas Company has given official notice <br />of its intent to file an application with the Public Utilities <br />Commission of Ohio to amend its tariffs so as to increase rates <br />and charges for gas service in its entire service territory, including <br />the City of North Olmsted, by 5.5 Percent, and to increase the <br />monthly service charge to Four Dollars ($4.00), to be charged to <br />all customers, in addition to charges for gas service, and <br />WHEREAS, Council deems the proposed amendments to East Ohio <br />Gas Company tariffs to be motivated solely by the Company's desire <br />to generate excessive profits for the benefit of its corporate <br />officers and shareholders rather than to genuine increases in the <br />cost of supplying natural gas, and <br />WHEREAS, Council regards the rate increases proposed by <br />the East Ohio Gas Company as a gross abuse of monopoly power, <br />highly detrimental to the public interest, and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed rate increases, if adopted, would increase <br />the burdens of inflation presently borne by the residents of North <br />Olmsted and other communities throughout Ohio and would work a <br />particular hardship on Senior Citizens and other individuals dependent <br />on fixed income. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That this Council on behalf of its members and <br />the citizens o~ North Olmsted vigorously oppose granting of the rate <br />increases currently being rec{uested by the East Ohio Gas Company <br />for gas service within its service area, and the establishment of a <br />monthly service charge for all customers of the said utility. <br />SECTION 2: That this Council urges that the Public Utilities <br />Commission o Ohio be promptly advised of the adoption of such <br />legislation. <br />SECTTON 3: That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br />authorize anddirected to forward a copy of this Resolution to the <br />Clerk of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. <br />SECTION 4: That this Resolution shall take effect and be in full <br />force ~omwafter the earliest period allowed by law. <br />PASSED : ~f / ~, /~ ~ <br />ATTEST: <br />6.
