It should be noted that in cases where starting pay exceeds that of
North Olmsted, such as Toledo, Sandusky, Westlake, Parma, Akron, Euclid,
Willoughby, Fairview Park, Bedford, and Brookpark, pay after two years
is lower in all cases than pay after two years for the North Olmsted
Fire Department, with the exception of the City of Brookpark.
Of the communities listed above with starting salaries higher than
North Olmsted, the following have some sort of bonus program which applies
to the Fire Department:
Ashland, $100 per year
Westlake, $250 per year
Sidney, $1,432 per year
Wilmington, $750 per year
Shaker Heights, $500 per year
Strongsville, 5o per year up to $1,000 maximum
Middleburg Heights, 3% of annual salary
Berea, 50 of annual salary
Brookpark, 4% of annual salary
When premiums or bonuses for the above communities are added to wages,
Council will note that in every case where the premium or bonus is a
flat dollar amount, wages plus premium are lower than the wages-only
figure for the North Olmsted Fire Department at the high end, for those
employees after two years of service.
For those communities where premium or bonus pay is a percentage of
base salary, cost to the city would depend upon how many employees
within the Fire Department are Paramedics, and the length of service
time for each.
For those communities where premiums are based upon percentage of income,
ratios of Firemen to Firemen/Paremedics are c{uite different from the
same ratio in North Olmsted, as follows;
NORTH OLMSTED 26 Paramedics in a Department of 39
Strongsville 6 26
Middleburg Heights 4 27
Berea 10 21
Brookpark 9 45
