~~. <br />-.: <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION <br />BY: JANET SARINGER <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING <br />ELECTRIC ILLUMINATING <br />AN INCREASE BEFORE TH <br />OF THE STATE OF OHIO, <br />N0. 80 - 84 <br />THE LATEST CLEVELAND <br />COMPANY'S REQUEST FOR <br />E PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION <br />AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company (CEI) has <br />recently announced their intention to seek from the Public Utilities <br />Commission of Ohio (PUCO) an additional rate increase of nearly 10.5% <br />for electrical services, and <br />WHEREAS, this proposed rate increase, if permitted, would in- <br />crease the burden of inflation presently borne by the residents of <br />the City of North Olmsted and other communities throughout northeastern <br />Ohio and would be a particular hardship on senior citizens and other <br />individuals on fixed incomes, and <br />WHEREAS, there does not appear to be any justification whatso- <br />ever for an increase in rates and charges as proposed by CEI and is <br />another example of their absolute disregard for their customers and <br />public interest. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That this Council is absolutely and unequivocally <br />opposed to CEI's Latest proposed rate increase of nearly 10.50. <br />SECTION 2:= That this Council urges other affected municipalities <br />to adopt Resolutions opposing the latest proposed increase and that <br />the PUCO be promptly advised of such legislation. <br />SECTION 3: That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br />authorize an erected to forward a copy of this Resolution to <br />Governor James A. Rhodes, Clerk of the Ohio Senate, House of Representa- <br />tives, Chairman of PUCO, State Representative Rocco J. Colonna, State <br />senator Paul R. Matia, and other municipalities within Cuyahoga County. <br />SECTION 4: That this Resolution is declared to be an emergency <br />measure imme iately necessary for the preservation of the public <br />health, safety and welfare, and for the further reason that the matter <br />is presently pending before the PUCO, and action is expected shortly on <br />the request .for a rate increase, and further provided it receives <br />the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall <br />take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval <br />by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: S" <br />ATTEST: <br />F 0 E CE CA BELL, C RK OF COUNCIL <br />DE EY IMPERT, PR IDENT OF <br />COUNCI <br />- ~ <br />~~ ~-'~- 'W, First reading: <br />BERT W.
