<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 80- 53 <br />BY: <br />A RESOLUTION RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE <br />CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES TO AMEND <br />THE U.S. CONSTITUTION TO DECLARE THE FIRST <br />TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY, DURING <br />THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEAR, A NATIONAL <br />HOLIDAY. <br />,,,~ , <br />~1~ <br />WHEREAS, in recent years, statistics indicate that less <br />than fifty (50) percent of all eligible voters exercise their right <br />to vote; and <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary to encourage all voters to go to <br />the polls and cast their vote and to make it convenient for them <br />to do so, and <br />WHEREAS, voting for the President of the United States is an <br />extremely important time for all voters to exercise their right to <br />vote, and <br />WHEREAS, by declaring the first Tuesday after the first <br />Monday in November, during Presidential Election year, a national <br />holiday, it would greatly encourage many citizens to vote who in <br />past years have been unable to get to the polls during the scheduled <br />voting hours. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council hereby respectfully requests <br />the Congress o the United States to take steps necessary to amend <br />the U.S. Constitution to declare the first Tuesday after the first <br />Monday in November, during Presidential Election year, a national <br />holiday. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to <br />forward a copy of this Resolution to Senators John H. Glenn and <br />Howard M. T?etzenbaum, Congressman Ronald M.
