OLr1STED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 80- 4 <br />BY. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />COM1vILSSION OF OHIO TO DISAPPROVE THE RATE <br />INCREASE REQUEST WHICH. HAS BEEN FILED BY THE <br />OHLO BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY, AND DECLARING <br />AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Ohio Be11 is requesting rate increases which. <br />would add sixteen percent (16%) to th_e bills of most residential <br />customers; and <br />WHEREAS, Ohio Bell is also asking the right to use flexible <br />pricing which would permit reducing or increasing pxices to meet <br />the competition of private companies, and <br />WHEREAS, only one other state has permitted regulated <br />companies to modify their tariffs in competing with. unregulated <br />firms ; and <br />WHEREAS, the state consumer office counsel has already <br />announced their intention to oppose the rate increase with the <br />largest legal and technical operation ever put together for said <br />purpose. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That this entire Council and the Administration <br />hereby respect ully requests the Public Utilities Commission of <br />Ohio to disapprove the rate increase request which was filed by <br />the Ohio Bell Telephone Company and is to be heard in February, <br />1980. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to <br />forward copies o~ this Resolution to State Senator Jerome Stano, <br />State Senator Paul Nlatia, State Representative James.Betts, and <br />State Representative Rocco Colonna, and to the Public Utilities <br />Commission Chairman C. Luther Heckman, Commissioner David Sweet <br />and Commissioner William Newcomb. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an <br />emergency measure necessary for the immediate preservation of the <br />public health., safety and welfare of the City of North Olmsted, <br />and for the further reason that the Hearing scheduled for the <br />prospective rate increase is to be herd on the 22nd day of <br />February, 1980, and further provided it receives the affirmative <br />vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect <br />and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the <br />Mayor. <br />PASSED: /S" <br />ATTEST: <br />ORENCE CAP54PBELL, C K OF COUNCIL .
