CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2009 - 150 <br />BY: Mayor O'Grady and the Entire City Council <br />A RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br />OF KENAND KATHY BALL AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY <br />WHEREAS, Ken Ball, a United States Navy veteran, and Kathy Hill met when Kathy was employed by Taco <br />Bell and Ken was installing a cash register in a Columbus, Ohio Taco Bell. They were married June 2, 1990. While living <br />in Georgia they heard the Chick-fit-A corporate philosophy to not only be America's best quick-service restaurant but also <br />to promote community connections; both began working for the company. Now residing in Fairview Park, Ken and Kathy <br />have two sons; Daniel, 18, a student at Polaris Culinary School, and Evan, 16, who competes on a hockey travel team; and <br />WHEREAS, since opening the North Olmsted Chick-fit-A in April of 2007, proprietors Ken and Kathy Ball have <br />been active participants in community fundraisers and events, becoming well known for selflessly donating time, money, <br />and food to numerous causes. During the grand opening the indoor playground was dedicated to the children of the City of <br />North Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, through Chick-fit-A Ken and Kathy provided over one hundred fifty breakfasts for the 2008 Shop <br />with a Cop program and have pledged to do the same for 2009. They also participated in the Coin War charity fund raiser <br />by providing the winning class with free breakfasts. Chick-fit-A also provides food for the high school After Prom event <br />and supplies party trays at various police and school events throughout each year; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2009 the North Olmsted Chick-fit-A sponsored a retirement breakfast for Officer Chuck Holly. <br />They also provide food and games for Officer James Carbone's North Olmsted High School and Middle School Tailgate <br />parties, participated in the high school Mocktail Parties by providing drinks and sandwiches to all students, and during the <br />high school Popped for Wearing a Seatbelt campaign provided shake drink coupons to all students leaving the school <br />parking lot wearing their Seatbelt; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2008 Ken and Kathy provided refreshments to City employees attending required Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency Incident Command System 300 and 400 training courses. When the Cuyahoga County <br />Board of Health requested the City of North Olmsted host and supervise an H1N1 vaccination clinic on November 2l, <br />2009, Chick-fit-A graciously provided both breakfast and lunch to the 206 personnel managing the event; and <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL vED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, <br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Mayor and the entire City Council of North Olmsted, on behalf of our entire community, <br />do hereby recognize and commend Ken and Kathy Ball and the Chick-fit-A Corporation for their many humanitarian <br />endeavors and their great generosity on behalf of our entire community. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution be spread in full upon the record of this Council and that the Clerk of Council <br />is hereby directed to forward a duly authenticated and executed copy of this Resolution to Ken and Kathy Ball. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure immediately necessary for the <br />preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and further for the reason that it is necessary that this Resolution go <br />into effect immediately in order to timely recognize the accomplishments of Ken and Kathy Ball; and further provided it <br />receives the affirmative vote oftwo-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon <br />its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: ~(~( ~~/~/ ~~ <br />ATTE T.• <br />MARIE GALLO <br />Clerk of Council <br />APPROVED: ~ "Z ` `r ~~ <br />MAYOR THOMAS E.
