,~. <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2009 - 120 <br />By: Mayor O'Grady: <br /> <br />A RESOL UTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CUYAHOGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE LEVY, <br />ISSUE 4, A REPLACEMENT OF THE CURRENT 1. S MILLS AND AN INCREASE OF 0.3 <br />MILLS FOR A TEN YEAR PERIOD AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga Community College has capably and cost-effectively served Cuyahoga County <br />and all of Northeast Ohio for the past 46 years by providing quality higher education to those wishing to better <br />their professional and personal lives; and <br />WHEREAS, over 800,000 Cuyahoga County residents have passed through the doors of Tri-C since its <br />founding in 1963 to take advantage of the nearly 1,000 courses in 70 career and technical programs and the <br />liberal arts made available by the College; and <br />WHEREAS, the number of students currently seeking the quality academic programs being offered by <br />Cuyahoga Community College has increased to over 30,000 credit students enrolled in the 2009 Fall semester; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the tax dollars generated by Cuyahoga Community College's Issue 4 will produce <br />immediate economic return by creating the talented workforce of tomorrow needed for business and industry to <br />expand and remain profitable. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council endorses Cuyahoga Community College's Issue 4 on the ballot this <br />November. We call on all residents to vote in favor of Issue 4 so Cuyahoga Community College can continue <br />to provide affordable, accessible, quality higher education to all the residents of Cuyahoga County. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure immediately <br />necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and further for the reason that it is <br />necessary that this Resolution go into effect immediately due to being time sensitive and further provided it <br />receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force <br />immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: a ~ ~ U <br />ATTEST <br />MARIE GALLO <br />Clerk of Council <br />APPROVED: ~~ 6 ~/~ <br />,~~ ~ ~ o <br />MAYOR THOMAS E.
