<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0.2009-68 <br />BY: THE MAYOR AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ACHIEVEMENT BY <br />JOY DEMARCO <br />OF THE GOLD AWARD IN GIRL SCOUTING <br />WHEREAS, this Council and Administration recognize and reaffirm their dedication to organized Scouting; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council and the Administration further recognize that those participating in Scouting, both the <br />youth and their leaders, are an invaluable asset to the community and the Nation, and that the ideals of Scouting, the Girl <br />Scout Promise and Law are commitments that all citizens should strive for; and <br />WHEREAS, when one of our young citizens has been committed to Scouting to such an extent that she earns the <br />Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, it is truly a noteworthy accomplishment; and <br />WHEREAS, JOY DEMARCO, a member of Troop 409, has been a Girl Scout for thirteen years and has <br />participated in numerous activities including badge work, camping and service opportunities; she demonstrated leadership <br />skills by helping the younger girls bridge to their next level; when she was a Cadette, she earned her Program Aid by <br />participating in the ZINK program; as a Senior, she earned the Senior Program Aide by working with various Brownie <br />troops; and as a Junior in high school, she earned her Leader in Training, part of which included taking the required adult <br />trainings of Risk & Safety, Diversity and Brownie Age Level, becoming the only girl in her Council to have earned this <br />award; she continues to work with Brownie Troop 1497 by doing all their meeting programming and participating in all <br />their activities; and <br />WHEREAS, JOY earned her Gold Award in February of 2009; she presented theater workshops at the Horizon <br />Activities Center; and she concluded with acommunity-wide theater workshop to reach more children; and <br />WHEREAS, in addition to her Troop activities, JOY has helped with the set up and working at the annual <br />Sweetheart Ball for her Service Unit for the past two years; she has worked at the Girl Scout tent during North Olm::f.~d <br />Homecoming for the past three years; she has volunteered her time at the Girl Scout Council office; and <br />WHEREAS, while an active Scout, JOY has participated in school, church, and community activities by serving <br />as the vice president of the National Honor Society, as a member of the Teen Advisory Group at the North Olmsted <br />Lilrary, as a member of the high school Media Club, as a member of the Zoo crew at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo; she <br />spent six years in the Clague Playhouse youth theater program and participated in six productions; she earned an <br />Academic Letter and has received the Presidents Scholarship to Baldwin Wallace College; she has earned three religious <br />medals and helps the Sunday school class at her church and also helps the choir director; she has helped at many functions <br />of Preschool PTA and several elementary school PTA groups; she helped at the Safety Fair sponsored by Giant Eagle; she <br />has worked at the Day Camp at Lake Erie Nature and Science Center for the past five years; she helped at the Girl Scout <br />day camp at Wintergreen; and <br />WHEREAS, the reception of the Gold Award by JOY DEMARCO is a noteworthy accomplishment <br />deserving of the congratulations of the entire community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTa~_'x~, <br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: " <br />SECTION 1: That this Council and City Administration extend best wishes and heartiest congratulations to <br />JOY DEMARCO on her achievement of the Gold Award in Girl Scouting. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk <br />JOY DEMARCO. <br />Passed: - ~~ a a C9d <br />Attes . u'~ ,~ ,, <br />i <br />,~ ~.~ <br />rbara L.
