EXHIB[T B-10 <br />JOB CLASSfFtGATION OPERATOR <br />RESPONS(BLE TD <br />NATURE QF VVORK: <br />C7PERATIONS FOREMAN <br />This is routine, skilled anc{ semi-skilled work, essisting in shift operafion of wasfewafer treatment and <br />pumping equiprnent ana faci(ities at the municipai wastewater trEatmenf pfanf arid pumping stafions. <br />Work invofves responsibifity far roufine and emergency operations; servicing and cleaning of <br />buifdings and grounds as weil as a variety or specialized equipment and apparatus in a pumping station and <br />wastewater treatment plant. Dufies incfude the operation of pumps, motors, and the reading and recording <br />af appropriate meters and gauges at regufarly schedufed intervals in and around pump and #reatment <br />p{ants. incumbents are required to become thoroughiy trained on assigned equipment under normal and <br />emergency concfifions. Work is performed under the general supervisian of the Assisfiant Superintendent - <br />Plant Operafiorrs and is reviewed through inspecfion of plant records, equipment and facifities, and <br />observation and tesfis of plant efficiencies and effecfiveness. <br />F I114lIPLES OF WORK: <br />Reads log book of previous shift operations to deterniine the occurrence of conditions requiring special <br />attention during his shifts. <br />o Tours and inspects assigned pump station and treatment plant as required: <br />checks out equipment and collects appropriate wastevuater samples during various phases af the <br />treatment process; checks flow charts to determine that flow is to desired volums; checks ink supply <br />and f{ow pens and replenishes and adjusts as necessary. <br />Turns electrically operated pumps on and off in accordance with a prescribed schedule or specific <br />instrucfions; reads.meters; changes log and recorder sheets and makes periodic entries therean. <br />Performs such general custociial work as mopping fioors, washing windows, painfing equipmQnt, <br />keeping machinery free of dust and oil, and shoveling snow. <br />• Maintains vigilance over operating equipment and recording devices at pumping stations; starts up <br />emergency pumps and annually resefs control devices to maintain pumping and treatment operafions <br />during pawer failure and emergency condifiions. <br />56
