EXHIBtT B-12 <br />JQB CLASSIFICATION LABORATORY <br />TECHNtC(AN <br />RESPONStBLE To <br />NATURE OF WORK: <br />SUPER1PtSlNG GHEMIST <br />This is technicai work perfarming a considerable uolurne of standard chemical and bacterio(ogicai <br />test in the laboratory of the municipaf wastewater treatment plant. - <br />fncumbents in this class conduct routine laboratory tests, tschnical preparation of sofutions and <br />media as well as participafe in fihe specia(ized sampiing, test, and investigatiQns of water qua[ity control or <br />industrial wastewater polfufion control. Tests are perfarmed according to weil designed and standarcfized <br />procedures, but require accurate and skilled applicafion ofi laboratory techniques as vvell as the competence <br />ta modify standard test and develap new procedures when necessary. Work is performed under the general <br />supervision of the Assistant Superintendent - Plant Operations, who provides specific instrucfions or new or <br />modified pracedures, and who inspects tesfing methods, results and laboratory techniques. <br />z - .,kIUIPLES OF VVORK: <br />? PerForms bacteriological examinafians of water samples, prepares cultures and makes microscopic <br />examinations; and reads and recorcfs results. <br />Incubates and grows bacteria far cofifarm plate counts; caunts coiiform after incubation; makes <br />bacteriological examination5 of wastewater or industriaf waste samples secured from the source or from <br />within fihe system during the several stages of treatment. <br />? Prepares, maintains, and sefs up for specific operafions of a wide variety of laboratory equipment <br />apparatus and supplies; cieans and sferifizes laboratory equipment utensils and facifities. <br />Documents, tabuEates and prepares accurate reports on all fests performed as directed by the <br />Superintendent of the Wafer Pollution Control Department or the Assisfant Superintendent - P(ant <br />Operations. <br />Maintains a supply of chemicals in the laboratory; washes giassware; cleans up, calibrates and services <br />laborato.ry equipment and apparatus periodically when required. <br />Performs various routine tests, such as: titration, fiitrafion, or precipiiation; makes faboratory tests <br />•Aports and furnishes test date. <br />61
