CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2001-117 <br />BY: Councilman George Nashar and Councilman Dean McKay <br />AN ORDINANCE AMEIVDING THE TRAFFIC CONTROL FILE <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED SO AS TO PROVIDE <br />FOR A UNIFORM SPEED LIMIT OF THIRTY-FIVE (35) <br />MILES PER HOUR ON GREAT NORTHERN BOULEVARD <br />FROM BUTTERNUT RIDGE ROAD TO LORAIN ROAD. <br />WHEREA.S, the present posted speed limit on Great Northern Boulevard in the City of North <br />Olmsted is 3 S mph from Butternut Ridge Road to I-480, and 25 mph from I-480 to Lorain Road; and <br />WHEREAS, the City's Traffic Engineer, upon review of the matter, has recommended that <br />the speed limit on Great Northern Boulevard should be uniformly 35 mph from Butternut Ridge Road <br />to Lorain Road, because (1) the closed loop traffic signals for Great Northern Boulevard were set <br />for 35 mph to increase the capacity of the roadway; (2) between I-480 and Brookpark Road, all <br />access to Great Northern Boulevard is controlled by traffic signals; and (3) between Brookpark Road <br />and Lorain Road, there are traffic signals for two access driveways and 18 uncontrolled access <br />driveways, which is a fewer amount of uncontrolled access driveways than is found on most similar <br />lengths of Lorain Road; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the safety, health and <br />welfare of the residents of the City to provide for a uniform speed limit of 3 5 mph on ('rreat Northern <br />Boulevard from Butternut Ridge Road to Lorain Road; and <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 305 of the Traffic Code provides for the maintenance of the Traffic <br />Control File, which said file can be amended only by ordinance. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COIINTY OF CiIYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION L• That, based upon the determination of the City's Traffic Engineer that the <br />speed limit along Great Northern Boulevard should uniformly be 35 mph from Butternut Ridge Road <br />to Lorain Road, the Police Division be and the same is hereby authorized and directed to amend the <br />Traffic Control File of the City of North Olmsted to indicate thereon that the speed limit on Great <br />Northern Boulevard from Butternut Ridge Road to Lorain Road shall uniformly be 35 mph. <br />SECTION 2: That further the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized and directed to cause <br />said signs to be installed in accordance with the provisions of this Ordinance and the Manual of <br />Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
