CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2001-110 <br />BY: COUNCIL MEMBER KASLER <br />A RESOL UTION SUPPORTING HOUSE BILL 290 AND SENATE BILL 127, EACH <br />OF WHICH REPRESENTS AN EFFORT BY THE OHIO LEGISLATURE TO <br />REDUCE THE COST OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS, AND <br />OTHERS IN THE STATE OF OHIO, WHO EITHER HAYE NO HEALTH <br />INSURANCE OR ARE UNDERINSURED, BY ESTABLISHING A STATE-FUNDED <br />RX DISCOUNT PROGRAM, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, there is currently pending before the Ohio House and Senate two bills, HB <br />290 and SB 127, respectively, which propose to create and fund a program which would provide <br />discounted prescription coverage for senior citizens, and other individuals in the State of Ohio, <br />who are not qualified for such coverage under existing federal, state or county programs, and who <br />otherwise do not have prescription drug coverage through a third-party payer; and <br />WKEREAS, under this program, the State of Ohio would issue prescription cards to <br />qualifying applicants; and <br />WHEREAS, the prescription card would apply to 2,236,000, people, who have no <br />coverage or are underinsured; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council believes that there are a substantial number of citizens of North <br />Olmsted, who would benefit from these bills if enacted; and <br />WfIEREAS, it is the desire of this Council therefore to express its strong support for the <br />passage of House Bi11290 and Senate Bill 127; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted hereby resolves to endorse, <br />support and work for the passage of House Bi11290 and Senate Bill 127, beginning by mailing a <br />copy of this Resolution of Support to Governor Taft, to State Senator Spada, and to State Rep. <br />Conway Kilbane.
