It is the infientian of the parties to provide to said employees, salary continuation <br />benefits when an employee contracts an illness as herein after specified. <br />6.2 In the evenf that a full-time employee of the bargaining unit shou(d become <br />il( due to contact with AIDS, HIV, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis or Meningitis and such illness <br />has so incapacified the employee that he temporarily is unable fo work, the PQlice Chief <br />shall investigafie and determine whefiher the ilfness is work relafed and of a temporary <br />nature. The Police Chief shail then forward his finding to the Safety Director who shall <br />determine the nafiure and extent of the illness and how contracted, inc(uding <br />circumsfiances fhereof. If after considerafiion of the totality of the facts the Safety <br />Direcfior determines that said disease was contracted during employment and is of a <br />temporary nature requiring medical leave, the Safety Qirector shall authoriZe the full <br />payment of the employee's regular salary for a period of ninety (90) days. <br />6.3 If after ninefiy (90) days, an illness still femporarily incapacitates the <br />employee, the Safefy Director shall recommend to Council whether fio confiinue salary. <br />Council shall forthwith review the matter and by a majority vote determine whether the <br />employee shall continue fio receive full salary during recuperation. <br />6.4 Any bargaining unit member who qualifies for benefits under this section <br />shall be required to pay over to the Cify any amounf received frorn the Bureau of <br />Workers' Compensation as supplemental wages. Further if at any time the City <br />determines on the basis of inedical evidence that the employee is permanentiy disabied <br />and wiil no longer be able fo carry on his duties, fihen the Gity may terminate payments <br />and insisf fihat the Emp(oyee go on a pensian prograrn. <br />6.5 Any employee that qualifies for the benefits under fhis Section shall not <br />have his accumulated sick fime reduGed because of a qualified illness which occurred <br />while in the iine of duty, <br />6.6 (n the event that an emp(oyee has been injured or exposed fio a toxic <br />substance or to an infectious disease in the eaurse or scope of his employmeint and is <br />sent to the hospital for testing, treafiment and/or preventafive measures, and Workers' <br />61
