Resolution No. 2001-80 <br />Page 2 <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OffiO: <br />Section 1: That this Cou.ncil hereby urges the President of the United States and the <br />United States Congress to take emergency actions and enact measures to respond to the crisis facing <br />the domestic steel industry. These actions should be effective for a sufficient period of time so that <br />our domestic steel industry can recover from the effects of an unprecedented flood of apparently <br />illegally-traded foreign steel, develop and implement restructuring plans to adjust to global <br />competition and create a level playing field for future competition based on product quality, service <br />and cost. <br />Section 2: That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby instructed to transmit copies <br />of this resolution to the offices of the following officials/organizations: President George W. Bush; <br />Vice President Richard Cheney; Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle; Speaker Dennis Hastert; U. S. <br />Senators Michael DeWine and George Voinovich; U. S. Representatives Sherrod Brown, Dennis <br />Kucinich, Steven LaTourette, Michael Oxley, Ralph Regula, Thomas Sawyer and Stephanie Tubbs- <br />Jones; Governor Robert Taft; each of the members of the Cuyahoga County delegation of the Ohio <br />Senate and Ohio House of Representatives; the County Commissioners Association of Ohio; United <br />States Trade Representative Ambassador Robert Zoellick; Secretary of the United States <br />Department of Commerce Donald Evans; and the United Steel Workers of America. <br />Section 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of <br />the City of North Olmsted, such emergency being the need to immediately respond to the crisis <br />facing the domestic steel industry.
