right to take or be paid for any vacation leave to his credit which is in excess of the <br />accumulated vacation credit for one (1) prior year. All such excess vacation leave <br />credit shall be eliminated from the employee's vacation feave balance. <br />SECTiON 3: All vacation time shall be paid at the regular wage rate, except when the <br />employee requests vacation credit accumulation. For the purpose of calculating <br />vacation pay, when vacation accumulation is requested by an emp(oyee, the wage rate <br />at the time the vacation was requested to be accumulated shalf be used to calculate <br />vacation pay. If, due to scheduling, vacations cannot be taken subsequent to the year <br />such vacation was earned and are accumulated and taken in the next subsequent year, <br />the rate of vacation pay shall be at the rate of pay during the year such vacation is <br />taken, provided the same is approved by the Department Head. <br />SECTION 4: Vacations must be scheduled with and authorized by the Chief of Police <br />or his designee. Schedules are to be coordinated so as not to disrupt necessary City <br />services or functions of the department. <br />SECTION 5: If an employee is terminated (voluntarity or involuntarily) prior to taking his <br />vacation and has completed one (1) year of employment with the city, he shall receive <br />the prorated portion of any accrued but unused vacation at the time of separation. In <br />case of death af an employee, the unused vacation leave shall be paid to the estate. <br />SECTION 6: (a) An employee may have the option of using a personal day as a day of <br />extended vacation, with prior approval of the Chief of Police or his designee. <br />(b) An employee may have the option of using one week of his vacation in <br />increments of less than one week; for example, one or two days at a time. An <br />employee will give the supervisor at least forty-eight (48) hours' advance notice in <br />writing. In an emergency situation verbal communication with the supervisor is <br />appropriate and may justify waiving advance notification. <br />ARTICLE 19: <br />SICK LEAVE <br />SECTION 1: An employee shall be granted sick leave for personal illness or injury as <br />follows: <br />a) Paid sick leave shall be earned and accumulated at the rate of one and <br />one-fourth (1 1/4) days for each month; <br />b) Pay for sick leave shall be at the employee's straight time hourly rate (or <br />17
