SECTION 1: That the Mayor and Council of the City of North Olmsted strongly opposes the proposed rate increase filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) by natural gas utility Dominion East Ohio, because of the disastrous effects it will have on the household budgets of residents, and the business budgets of businesses, throughout the City of North Olmsted, and particularly because of the effects it will have on City residents on fixed incomes. SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward a copy of this Resolution immediately upon its passage and approval to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), to Congressman Dennis Kucinich and to the following State of Ohio officials: Governor Taft, State Senator Spada and State Representative Sally Conway Kilbane. SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and for the further reason that it is necessary that this Resolution becomes effective immediately so that it may be transmitted to the PUCO, and to the governmental officials mentioned above, in time to be taken into consideration before the proposed rate increase of Dominion East Ohio takes effect on January 30, 2001, and further provided that it receives an affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor.
