CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION N0.97-93 BY: Council Members O'Grady, McKay, Nashar, Lind A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE UPGRADING OF I-71 FROM FOUR LANES TO SIX LANES BETWEEN STATE ROUTE 18 IN MEDINA COUNTY TO ROUTE 42 IN CUYAHOGA COUNTY. WHEREAS: I-71 is the main transportation link between the State of Ohio's three major cities; and WHEREAS: I-71 traffic counts have continued to increase at every point between Cleveland and Cincinnati; and WHEREAS: The traffic counts on I-71 will continue to increase even if all development in Medina County were curtailed indefinitely; and WHEREAS: I-71 has been recognized as one of the major transportation links in the country and as such is presently one of three interstate segments nationally to be investigated for upgrade to an intelligent highway system; and WHEREAS: The reconstruction delays on I-71 have resulted in a major deterioration of the existing roadway surface between State Route 18 and State Route 42 in Strongsville; and WHEREAS: I-71 is the main transportation artery for the City of Cleveland and its restriction could eventually lead to more urban decay through loss of business; and WHEREAS: The traffic problems have been recognized as significant enough for ODOT to fund a $40,000,0000 construction project that will add a third lane in each direction from State Route 18 in Medina County to State Route 42 in Cuyahoga County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCII. OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of North Olmsted does hereby formally give notice of its support for the immediate reconstruction of I-71 from the intersection of I-71 and State Route 18 north to the intersection of I-71 and the intersection of State Route 42 by adding one additional lane in each direction. .~, i
