. . <br /> <br />City of North Olmsted <br />Resolution No. 97-70 <br />By: Mayor Boyle <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CUYAHOGA COUNTY <br />BOARD OF HEALTH IN ITS POLICY OF VACCINATING <br />DOMESTIC PETS FOR RABIES IN ORDER TO STOP THE <br />MOVEMENT OF RACCOON STRAIN RABIES VIRUS <br />WESTWARD FROM THE PENNSYLVANIA BORDER, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />Whereas, there is a serious threat of rabies coming from the Pennsylvania border <br />that is being carried through wild raccoons, and <br />Whereas, rabies is transmitted to human beings through domestic dogs and cats <br />that have encountered the raccoons while protecting their homes, and <br />Whereas, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health has established a policy of <br />vaccinating domestic pets for the virus, rabies, and <br />Whereas, it is the city's desire to support the health and well being of citizens in <br />this area and other areas by preventing an epidemic of raccoon strain rabies virus. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY" <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1: The city supports the Cuyahoga County Board of Health's intent to <br />educate the public of methods to protect themselves from exposure to this possibly fatal <br />virus prior to any occurrence in our county. <br />Section 2: The City will aid in the gathering and organizing information and <br />putting it together in a useful form to be distributed in the future and encourage the <br />development of low-cost rabies vaccination clinics. <br />.Section 3: The City requests that all owners of domestic dogs and cats have them <br />vaccinated against rabies to maintain the good health of both human and animal <br />population. <br />Section 4: That the Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to forward <br />copies of this Resolution to the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. <br /> <br />
