JOB CLASSIFiCAT10N RESPONSIBL.E TO MAiNTENANCE HELPER MAINTENANCE FOREMAN CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES OF THE CLASSIFICATfON: This is a semi-skilled and limited skilled work in construction, repair and grounds at the municipal wastewater pumping stations and treatment plant. Work involves responsibility for assisting in the maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery and related appurtenances at the wastewater pumping stations and treatment p{ant; other duties include acting as a relief operator and performing building maintenance and custodial duties when required. Usually maintenance work is perFormed under the immediate supervision of an employee of a higher classification. Assignments are determined by breakdowns of machinery and equipment; however, routine work is performed with iittle or direct supervision. Technical assistance is readily available for help in unusual or difficult problems. Work is viewed through inspections and by observations of results. EXAMPL.ES OF WORK: • Loads and unloads heavy materials from truck; moves and assists in moving ? heavy machinery and equipment. • Performs general building and grounds maintenance and custodial tasks including painting; shoveling snow and repairing windows when required. • Assists in the maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment; such as, pumps, chlorinators, and chemical feeders; installs and replaces new gauges and pressure switches on panels when necessary. • Operates electric pumping station in emergencies; inspects pumping stations as required fior proper operation when required. ? Assists operators and mechanics in the operation and repair of pumping stations and treatment. • Maybe assigned to operate pumping station or treatment plant on assigned shift for relief or emergency situations. • Occasionally operates light automotive equipment, such as trucks, front end loaders, and tractors. • Subject to 24- hour call during emergency situations. 63
