CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 98-92 <br />BY: Mayor Norman T. Musial and the Entire City Council <br />A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING AUGUST 26, 1998 AS WOMEN' S EQUALITY <br />DAY IN RECOGIVITION OF THE RATIFICATION OF THE NINETEENTH <br />AMENDMENT TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION AND IN OPENING EMPLOYMENT <br />OPPORTiJ1VITIES TO WOMEN AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Seventy-eight years ago women were granted the right to vote with <br />the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution; and <br />WHEREAS, Ohio women were instrumental in the formation and the passage of the <br />Nineteenth Amendment; and <br />WHEREAS, the women of Ohio began the fight for the ratification in 1850, with <br />the Salem, Ohio Women's Convention; and <br />WHEREAS, seventy-eight years after the enactment of the Nineteenth Amendment, <br />voting was still considered a precious gift and women across the country value the efforts <br />of those who fought valiantly to obtain it; and <br />WHEREAS, one hundred and fifty years ago, the suffrage movement began, as did <br />the movement to open all occupation doors to women; and <br />WHEREAS, the women who came before them, whose hard work and <br />determination have enabled today's women to seek out and excel at any career in which <br />they choose; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Mayor and City Council declare that August 26, 1998 be <br />designated as WOMEN' S EQUALITY DAY throughout the City of North Olmsted. <br />SECTION 2: That the City of North Olmsted join with the State of Ohio in <br />recognition of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States <br />Constitution and in celebration of the contributions made by Ohio women to the success <br />of the suffrage movement and in opening employment opportunities to women.
