medical evidence for short term absences will be removed, and the employee will be <br />notified in writing. <br />14.6. Any abuse of sick leave or the unjustified pattemed use of sick leave shall <br />be just and sufficient cause for discipline, including discharge, as may be determined by <br />the Employer, subject to the grievance and arbitration procedure. <br />14.7 All employees shall receive two (2) eight (8) hour days off, plus an <br />additional four (4) hours with pay, or the Employee may elect to receive twenty (20) <br />hours pay for each six (6) consecutive months of unused sick leave. Unused sick leave <br />days earned may be carried over, if not taken within one (1) year of date of day earned, to <br />the following year, with a maximum of five (5) days. <br />14.8. Accumulated unused sick leave time may be converted at the time of <br />retirement or death for all full-time Corrections Officers of the Police Depariment. The <br />payment for all those who qualify under this Section shall be based upon the ra.te of pay <br />of the employee at the time of his retarement or death, and payment sha11 amount to one- <br />ha1i(1/2) of the unused accumulated sick leave time, but in all instances, the maximum <br />amount paid shall not exceed an amount in excess of eighty (80) days in 1998, one <br />hundred (100) days in 1999 and one hundred and twenty (120) accumulated unused sick <br />days in 2000 and thereafter. <br />14.9. Employees may use up to fifteen (15) work days per yeaz of earned and <br />accumulated sick leave if necessitated by illness in the employee's immediate family. <br />However, if an employee uses more than seven (7) sick work days per calendar year for <br />this purpose, the employer may require that the employee provide a certificate from the <br />(19) <br />
