<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 90-33 <br />BY: DEAN MCKAY <br />A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 22, EARTH DAY. <br />WHEREAS, almost twenty years ago, more than twenty miIIion Americans <br />joined together on Earth Day in a demonstration of concern for the environ- <br />ment, and their coIIective action resuIted in the passage of sweeping new <br />Iaws to protect our air, water and land; and <br />WHEREAS, in the nineteen years since the first Earth Day, despite <br />environmentaI improvements, the environmentaI heaIth of the planet is <br />increasingly endangered, threatened by G1obaI CIimate Change, Ozone <br />Depletion, Tropical Deforestation, Ocean Pollution, Hazardous Waste, <br />NucIear Waste, Toxic Pesticides, and Desertification requiring action by <br />all sectors of society; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 is a national and international caII to action <br />for all citizens to join in a global effort to save the pIanet; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1994 activities and events wiII educate all citi- <br />zens on the importance of acting in an environmentaIIy sensitive fashion by <br />recycling; conserving energy and water; promoting aIternative, renewable <br />energy sources; encouraging sustainable, organic agricultural methods, <br />using efficient transportation; and adopting more ecologicalIy sound <br />IifestyIes; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events wiIl educate all <br />citizens on the importance of buying and using onIy those products least <br />harmfuI to the environment; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate all citi- <br />zens on the importance of doing business onIy with those companies that are <br />environmentaIly sens.it.ive and responsible; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events wiII educate all <br />citizens on the importance of voting for those candidates who demonstrate <br />an abiding concern for the environment; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events wiIl educate all citi- <br />zens on the importance of supporting the passage of Iegislation that wiII
