CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION N0. 90-33 BY: DEAN MCKAY A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 22, EARTH DAY. WHEREAS, almost twenty years ago, more than twenty miIIion Americans joined together on Earth Day in a demonstration of concern for the environ- ment, and their coIIective action resuIted in the passage of sweeping new Iaws to protect our air, water and land; and WHEREAS, in the nineteen years since the first Earth Day, despite environmentaI improvements, the environmentaI heaIth of the planet is increasingly endangered, threatened by G1obaI CIimate Change, Ozone Depletion, Tropical Deforestation, Ocean Pollution, Hazardous Waste, NucIear Waste, Toxic Pesticides, and Desertification requiring action by all sectors of society; and WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 is a national and international caII to action for all citizens to join in a global effort to save the pIanet; and WHEREAS, Earth Day 1994 activities and events wiII educate all citi- zens on the importance of acting in an environmentaIIy sensitive fashion by recycling; conserving energy and water; promoting aIternative, renewable energy sources; encouraging sustainable, organic agricultural methods, using efficient transportation; and adopting more ecologicalIy sound IifestyIes; and WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events wiIl educate all citizens on the importance of buying and using onIy those products least harmfuI to the environment; and WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate all citi- zens on the importance of doing business onIy with those companies that are environmentaIly sens.it.ive and responsible; and WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events wiII educate all citizens on the importance of voting for those candidates who demonstrate an abiding concern for the environment; and WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events wiIl educate all citi- zens on the importance of supporting the passage of Iegislation that wiII
