<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION N0. 92-149 <br />BY: MAYOR BOYLE AND THE ENTIRE COUNCIL <br />A RFSOLUTION RF7('.OMZING THE WEEK OF OCMBER 24, 1992 Mt0[lCH <br />NOVHKIIt 1, 1992 AS RID RIBBUff WEFK <br />WHEREAS, the scourge of illegal drug trafficking and abuse continues to be <br />painfully visible throughout the na.tion, and is acknowledged to be the most <br />serious problem that the nation's cities have had to face over the pa.st several <br />years; and <br />WBER.EAS, illegal drugs have been responsible for the loss of livelihood and <br />the loss of life in virtually every community in the nation; and <br />WHEREAS, the cost of fighting the war an drugs in our schools and hospitals <br />and on our streets has grown steadily over the years, far outstripping the <br />ability of local governments to maintain the anti-drug efforts that are needed; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, local leaders, in government and in the commun;ty, know that the <br />support of the people in the neighborhoods is the most effective weapon they can <br />employ in their efforts to reduce the demand for illegal drugs and drive away <br />the suppliers of those drugs; and <br />WHEREAS, the National Red Ribbon Campaign ha.s been established by the <br />National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth to help create awareness of <br />the drug problems facing every comlrnunity, to develop parent and community teams <br />to combat illegal drugs, and to promote drug-free lifestyles for America's <br />youth; and <br />WBEREAS, October 24 through November 1, 1992 has been designated National <br />Red Ribbon Week, calling an all Americans to show their support for a drug-free <br />nation by wearing a red ribbon during that week. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVID BY 'II3E COUNCIL OF 'TfiiE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, <br />COtJNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1: That it is the desire of this Council to recognize Nationa.l Red <br />Ribbon Week, October 24, 1992 through November 1, 1992, and to encourage the <br />citizens of the City of North Olmsted to participate in drug prevention <br />educatian activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed <br />to a drug free commnznity. <br />Section 2: That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and <br />after the earliest period allowed by law. <br />PASSED: ; 'C'. gQ -?.., <br />ATT . ? <br />L <br />Z?t. ?-?-?--?-- ? . <br />arbara L.
