". <br /> <br />?y <br />C/TY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 96-60 <br />BY: THE MAYOR AND ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUT/ON SUPPORTING ARBOR DAY AND EARTH DAY, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, In 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board <br />of Agriculture that a specia/ day be set aside for the p/anting of trees, and <br />WHEREAS, This holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed through the <br />planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and <br />WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the <br />world; and <br />WHEREAS, Throughout the world, Earth Day is recognized as the <br />symbo/ of environmental responsibility and stewardship; and <br />WHEREAS, This year marks the 27th Anniversary of the momentum <br />inspired by the origina/ ce/ebration of Earth Day in 1970; and <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day reinforces the dream of a healthy, vibrant planet; <br />a/oving, caring world and the nob/est endeavors of the human spirit. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNC/L OF THE <br />C/TY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF <br />OH/O: <br />SECTION 1: That this Administration and City Council support our city's <br />forestry program and other efforts to care for our trees and woodlands. <br />SECTION 2: That it is also the desire of this Administration and City <br />Council to urge all citizens to p/ant trees to promote the well being of present and <br />future generations.
