<br />City of North Olmsted <br />Resolutioa 96-57 <br />Bp Mayor Ed Bople and <br />the Eatire City Couacil <br />A RESOLUTION IN 8UPPORT OF THE DAY OF REMEMBRANCE <br />OF THE VICTIMS OF THE HOLOCAU8T and IN OPP08ITION <br />TO ALL FORM8 OF BIGOTRY. <br />WHEREA3, the Holocaust was a state-sponsored, systematic <br />persecutioa aad aaaihilatioa of hnmaa beings from 1933 through <br />1945, aad <br />WHEREAS, during that twelve pear period six mi]lioa Jews <br />were murdered along with mi]lioas of Poles, Grypsies, Soviets, <br />Catholics, Jehovah's Witaesses, haadicapped and homosexual <br />citizeas aad political dissideats, aad <br />WHEREA8, these aenseless crimes agaiast humaaity have <br />cansed backlash discrimiuatioa agaiast the prond German people <br />who also condemn the acts, aad <br />WHEREAS, civilization can never forget nor ignore the <br />holocauat because it could never survive a repeat, aad <br />WHEREAS, Tuesday, April 16, 1996 has been desigaated bp <br />aa Act of Coagress as a Dap of Remembrance of the Victims of the <br />Holocaust. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUMTY OF CUYAHOGA aad 8TATE <br />OF OHIO: <br />8ECTION 1: That the City of Morth Olmsted coademas all <br />iahnmaa acts, especially those perpetrated by goverameats <br />themselves. <br />8ECTION 2: That all governmeat leaders must remember <br />that the powers of governmeat rest in the hands of the people <br />aad not the aspiratioas of Public Officials. <br />3ECTION 3: That the period of Snaday, April 14, through <br />8undap, Aprii 21, 1996 be designated as both the Days of <br />Remembraace of the Victims of the Holocaust aad Crimes Against <br />Humanity, Nnremberg 1946 Days. <br />8ECTION 4: That on those days aad every day we <br />collectively aad iudividuallp strive to overcome bigotrp, hatred <br />aad iadifference through learaiag, tolerance and remembraace.
