'"?.` ?„,°'? <br />? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RE50LUTION NO. 96-196 <br />SPONSOR: MAYOR BOYLE AND THE ENTIRE COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TD THE MERGER OF <br />CENTERIOR ENERGY CORPORATION AND OHIO EDISON <br />UNDER A NEW HOLDING COMPANY CALLED <br />FIRSTENERGY AS IT IS CURRENTLY PROPOSED. <br />WHEREAS, reliable electric power is crucial to the life of many of our resident and the <br />quality of life for everyone; and <br />WHEREAS, regardless of what North Olmsted does in the area of residential flood <br />abatement, without electrical power many homes will suffer flooding during even the smallest of <br />storms; and <br />WHEREAS, Centerior Energy Corporation currently operates an electric utility in North <br />Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, electric power in North Olmsted has been less than reliable based mainly on <br />a lack of preventative maintenance; and <br />WHEREAS, North Olmsted believes the lack of preventative maintenance is a result of <br />the Centerior policy to reduce employment. <br />NOW, THEREFOR, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED: <br />SECTION 1: That the City of North Olmsted hereby urges State and Federal regulators <br />to examine the future preventative maintenance programs proposed by FirstEnergy as well as <br />future staffing levels and insure that the level of preventative maintenance be drastically improved. <br />SECTION 2: That all employment contracts be signed with collective bargaining units <br />prior to the approval of any merger. <br />SECTION 3: That a moratorium be placed on the reduction of staffing levels.
