BY: COUNCILMAN MCKAY, THE ENTIRE COUNCIL AND MAyOR BOYLE A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO OHIO SENATE BILL 118 WHICH PROHIBITS LOCAL GOVERNMENTS FROM ADOPTING BUILDING REGULATIONS CONTRARY TO THOSE ADOPTED BY THE OHIO BOARD OF BUILDING STANDARDS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted has exercised its powers of local self- government by adopting residential and non-residential building standards which may be more restrictive than those provided for by the Ohio Board of Building Standards; and WHEREAS, Ohio Senate Bill 118 proposes to require local governments to strictly follow all building standards established by the Ohio Board of Building Standards; and WHEREAS, Ohio Senate Bill 118 would prohibit the City of North Olmsted from exercising its powers of local self-government; and WHEREAS, The adoption of Ohio Senate Bill 118 would result in "minimum standards" for residential and non-residential construction; and WIHEREAS, Council has determined that such "minimum standards" would adversely affect the quality of construction in the City of North Olmsted; and WHEREAS, Council therefore desires to express opposition to Ohio Senate Bill 118. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted hereby expresses its opposition to Ohio Senate Bill 118 and strongly urges the defeat of same. SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to State Senator Gary Suhadolnik and all Cuyahoga County municipalities.
