A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDII3G THE ADOPTION <br />OF WHEELER JOINT RES(RaUTION PROPOSING <br />CONSTITUTIONAL AI~NDMENT TO PROVIDE FOR <br />DIVIDING CUYAHOGA COUNTY INTO SUB.-DSVISIONS <br />FOR ELECTION OF SENATORS AND RE&PRESENTATIVES:. <br />WHEREAS., the following Joint Resolution has been introduced <br />in the Senate and General Assembly of the State of Ohio, and this Council <br />believes it would be for the best interests of the citizens of the com- <br />munity to give the people of the State an opportunity to vote on the <br />question as to whether or not the following resolution should become an <br />amendment to the State Constitution. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITv OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, STATE OF OHIO: <br />That the following Resolution should be adopted by the Senate <br />and General Assembly of the State of Ohio: <br />nBy N1r. Wheeler. JOINT RESOLUTION <br />Proposing to amend Article XI of the Constitution of the State <br />of Ohio to provide for dividing Cuyahoga County into Sub-Divisions fir <br />election of Senators and Representatives. <br />B.e it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of Ohio, <br />three-fifths of the members elected to each House concurring therein, <br />that there be submitted to the Electors of the State, in the manner <br />prescribed by law at the General Election to be held on the first <br />Tuesday after the first Monday in November, 1955, a proposition to <br />amend Article %I of the Constitution of the State of Ohio by adding <br />thereto immediately after Section 11 of said Article a new Section as <br />follows <br />SECTION 11A The County of Cuyahoga is hereby divided into <br />Sub-Districts for t e purpose of election of both Representatives and <br />Senators, For the first four years after the year 1957, and thereafter <br />until changed, there shall be four Sub-Districts co-terminous with the <br />present Twentieth, Twenty-first, Twenty-second and Twenty-Third Con- <br />gressional Districts within the County of Cuyahoga. After the expira- <br />tion of such first four years, the General Assembly which have the <br />power to change, from time to time, the number and boundaries of such <br />Sub-Districts provided, however, that the number and boundaries of such <br />Sub-Districts shall always be equal to and coterminous with the number <br />and boundaries of the Congressional Districts then existing in Cuyahoga <br />County. The electors of each Sub-District shall be entitled, at each <br />election of Representatives hereafter held, to elect a number of Rep- <br />resentatives equal to the largest number which, when multiplied by the <br />total number of Sub-Districts, will not exceed the total number of <br />Representatives to which Cuyahoga County is then entitled. The electors: <br />of each Sub-District shall also be entitled, at each election of Senators <br />thereafter held, to elect a number of Senators equal to the largest <br />number which, when multiplied by the total number of Sub-Districts, will <br />not exceed the total number of Senators to which Cuyahoga County is then <br />entitled. If the County of Cuyahoga is entitled to any Representatives <br />or Senators in excess of those allocated to the Sub-District as above <br />provided, such unallocated Representatives and Senators shall be elected <br />by vote of the Electors of the entire County.n <br />PASSED: May 1a., 1955 • ~ ~- <br />ATTEST:. ° ~ ,~` , <br />,~ ~-~ <br />E.
