7•
DOn Matter: We wouZa' like to be able ' to pick up what material a.nd supplies
are needed -'and at least operate on our jobs for this next week.
@: what is the nature of your.wrork?
A: Gutter and spout work.
@: Do you assemble, or do you do a lot of cuttinb2 .
A: Some of our material is soldered, such as gutter and spouts,in the shop,
and assembled on the job. Most of our work is done on the 3ob though. We
do shearing, and we do make our trunk lines in the shop from sheet metal.
° We do ma,ke some warm aar heating fittings. ; .. , ; .
Ba'Llmgaz'dner: That raight autonatically; bring it into the manufacturing category.
This is one of the things we haven't had come up yet. I don't think you can
run a tin shop a.n there - that is if you manufacture. .
DOn Matter: A hardware store cuts a piece of pipe and solders it.
But you fabricate these and put them together.
cJO: I think Council would bs best satisfied to let this matter ride a lveek.
During the week, do any of you have objection to his getting material
out of that place -- but absolutely no fabricating, cutting or shear3ng
during this waek. This will be taken up next Tuesday.
John Tabar: I thinlt we could stand for a clear-cut definition of a business.
He di.cln't buy this place as a tin shop. He bought this place for his own
private.business. He was in the trucking business, in the farming business -
raised vegetables and sold them on his roadside stand. This is retail busi-
ness - and he is still doing that.
W' But he wants to run a tin shop, now.
Man in audience:
Your state law will supersede your Council action.
W' Now,we'11 decide if you can run a tin shop in there, or'if you canrt
run a tin shop in there, wi.thout your trying to show us what the court
says about it. I have nothing to sell or nothing to buy, but if you
Just keep on changino from one business to another? after that you will
have a brick yard in there'-- you just can't do that.
In a residential section, you just cantt change fron one to another.
There 's no question about that in my m.i.nd.
??Kischel - 4785 Clague Rd.
I h ae been listening to this conversation. I have ].ived out here I guess
three years or a little better. Before I bought that property, I inves-
tigated as to the zoning. I T,ras told that it was residential. 7xt listen-
ing to this conversation here tonight, I gather that the only way this man
can stay in business in that place is if it continues to be a pattern shop
o r a w o o d- w o r k i no s hop, w h ic h i t was a t t he t ime this ordinance was passed
in 1941. Am I right or wrong? I don't see very much in arguments.- I
