CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 2014 - 24 <br /> By: Mayor Kennedy <br /> A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO APPLY FOR AN ASSISTANCE TO <br /> FIREFIGHTERS GRANT FOR THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING FUNDS <br /> TO ACQUIRE THIRTY-FIVE SELF CONTAINED BREATHING <br /> APPARATUS ("SCBA') UNITS, TOGETHER WITH 2 BOTTLES, FACE <br /> MASKS AND VOICE AMPLIFIERS; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE <br /> MAYOR, IF THE APPLICATION IS GRANTED, TO ENTER INTO AN <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE APPROPRIATE AGENCY TO ACCEPT SAID <br /> GRANT FUNDS,AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security has invited application for the <br /> Assistance to Firefighters Grants ("AFG") Program; and <br /> WHEREAS, by and through grant funds, the North Olmsted Division of Fire desires to <br /> purchase thirty-five (35) replacement Self Contained Breathing Apparatus units, with related <br /> equipment; and <br /> WHEREAS, AFG grant awards aim to enhance response capabilities and to more <br /> effectively protect the health and safety of the public with respect to fire and other hazards. The <br /> grants enable local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations to obtain <br /> training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response <br /> vehicles; and <br /> WHEREAS. a 10% matching fund on the part of the City will be required, for a total City <br /> match of$29,024.00; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to ratify and further authorize the Director of <br /> Public Safety on behalf of the City to apply for the Department of Homeland Security Assistance <br /> to Firefighters Grant to purchase the needed SCBA's, to further authorize the Mayor to accept <br /> the Grant, if awarded, and to execute a contract if required; and to authorize the Director of <br /> Public Safety/ Mayor to execute all other documents necessary to effectuate receipt of the Grant; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br /> SECTION 1: That the Director of Public Safety be and is hereby authorized to apply for <br /> the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant. <br /> SECTION 2: That the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized to accept the Grant, if <br /> awarded, on behalf of the City of North Olmsted and to execute a contract, if required; and that <br /> 1 <br />
