MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />AUGUST 19, 2014 <br />Present: Council President Jones, Council Members Barker, Brossard, Hemann, <br />Kearney, Limpert and Schumann <br />Also Present: Mayor Kennedy, Director of Law Gareau, Clerk of Council Gallo, <br />Director of Safety /Service Glauner, Director of Planning /Development <br />Wenger and Director of Human Resources Farver. <br />Absent: Councilwoman Williamson <br />Director of Finance Copfer <br />Council President Jones called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The Council meeting minutes of August 5, 2014 were approved as written. <br />The following legislation will be considered for passage under suspension of the rules <br />this evening: Second Reading — Ordinance 2014 -50. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Kennedy: <br />• The community is invited to come to North Olmsted's Big Tent Event this Friday <br />at 7:00 p.m. Interactive and fun activities are planned. Homecoming begins <br />Thursday night and finishes up with the parade at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. <br />• The Police Dept. has received 23 Motorola portable radios from Cuyahoga <br />County. These radios are from the County's Communication Grant to improve <br />radio communication between agencies. The West Shore cities received these as <br />part of a request made two years ago. All North Olmsted police officers will have <br />portable radios assigned to them to utilize the MARCS radios. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• The Law Dept. prepared and filed, with the Common Pleas Court, its Brief of <br />Appellee in the matter of Brian Bielozer vs. The North Olmsted Civil Service <br />Commission. This was the appeal that he has taken from the decision of the <br />Commission to remove his name as the top candidate for the Sergeant <br />promotional exam because he was no longer employed with the city and because <br />he lost his LEADS certification rendering him ineligible — in the opinion of the <br />Commission — to serve in capacity of Sergeant. <br />• Regarding property maintenance, it has been a busy summer. There is additional <br />staff in the Building Dept. to conduct property maintenance inspections. Five <br />cases were recently disposed of including the animal shelter case with the pig in <br />
