CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2014 - 98 <br />By: Councilman Barker and Council President Jones, Council Members Brossard, Hemann, <br />Kearney, Limpert, Schumann & Williamson <br />A RESOL UTIONINSUPPOR T OF THE CUYAHOGA COUNTY <br />MAYORS AND CITY MANAGERS ASSOCIATION EFFORTS <br />TO COMPEL THE STATE OF OHIO, DEPARTMENT OF <br />NATURAL RESOURCES TOACTIVELYMANAGE THEDEER <br />POPULATION IN THE STATE OF OHIO, AND DECLARING <br />AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Ohio Revised Code § 1531.02 grants ownership and title to all wild animals in <br />this state, including deer, to the State of Ohio; and <br />WHEREAS, the increased population of deer throughout Cuyahoga County has resulted in a <br />significant nuisance and safety concern; and <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County, generally, and the City of North Olmsted, specifically, have <br />experienced property, vehicle and bodily injury damages as a result of the proliferation of deer and <br />the failure of the State of Ohio to pro- actively manage the deer population; and <br />WHEREAS, Statewide management of the deer population is critical to local communities <br />and its residents' health, safety and welfare; and <br />WHEREAS, The City of North Olmsted fully supports the efforts of The Cuyahoga County <br />Mayors and City Managers Association to compel the State of Ohio, Department of Natural <br />Resources to proactively manage the deer population in the State of Ohio. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: The City of North Olmsted considers statewide management of deer to be a <br />high priority and a necessary component to a comprehensive deer management program and joins <br />with the Cuyahoga County Mayors and City Managers Association in its request to the State of Ohio <br />that it promptly exercise its authority and duty to manage the deer population in the City of North <br />Olmsted, Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio. <br />SECTION 2: The Clerk of Council is hereby instructed to transmit a copy of this Resolution <br />to Governor John Kasich, James Zehringer, Director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, <br />Senator Tom Patton and Ohio Representative Nan Baker. <br />
