NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, OHIO, TWO-THIRDS OF ALL MEMBERS <br /> CONCURRING THAT: <br /> SECTION 1. Pursuant to Article XVIII,Sections 9 of the Ohio Constitution,and Article XII <br /> of the Charter of the City of North Olmsted, this Council authorizes and directs that the following <br /> proposal to amend the Charter of the City of North Olmsted be submitted to the electors of the City <br /> of North Olmsted at an election to be held at the usual places of voting in the City on Tuesday, <br /> November 3, 2015: <br /> That Article VII, Section 2 (e) of the Charter of the City of North Olmsted be amended to <br /> repeal section 2 (e) and establish a new and revised 2 (e) as follows: <br /> ARTICLE VII BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> [ARTICLE VII,SECTIONS 1, 3, 4, 5 AND 6 ARE NOT CHANGED IN THIS PROPOSAL] <br /> SEC. 2. PLANNING AND DESIGN COMMISSION. <br /> (a) Membership. The Planning and Design Commission shall consist of seven (7) voting <br /> members. One (1) member shall be a member of Council or an elector appointed by Council; <br /> one (1) member shall be a registered architect who shall be appointed by the Mayor; one (1) <br /> member shall be a person who is skilled in or engaged in the business of landscape architecture <br /> who shall be appointed by the Mayor; and four(4) members shall be electors of the City, not <br /> holding other municipal office, appointed by the Mayor. Members appointed by the Mayor are <br /> subject to the approval of a majority of the members of Council. The terms of the registered <br /> architect and the person who is skilled in or engaged in the business of landscape architecture <br /> shall be for five years each. The terms of the four(4) appointed electors, and the fifth if Council <br /> elects to appoint an elector, shall be for five years each. A vacancy occurring during the term of <br /> any member of the Commission shall be filled for the unexpired term in the manner authorized <br /> for the original appointment. The Mayor shall have the right to remove any appointed member <br /> for cause with the approval of two-thirds (2/3) of the members of the Council. <br /> Effective December 31, 2005, the terms of all current members of the Planning Commission <br /> shall terminate, and the Mayor shall proceed to appoint, effective January 1, 2006, six (6) <br /> members to the Planning and Design Commission holding the qualifications as set forth above to <br /> five year terms, except that electors so first appointed by the Mayor to the new Planning and <br /> Design Commission shall be appointed- one for a term of one year, one for a term of two years, <br /> one for a term of three years, one for a term of four years; and the registered architect and person <br /> skilled in or engaged in the business of landscape architecture shall be appointed for a term of <br /> five years. Likewise, effective January 1, 2006, if Council determines to appoint an elector to the <br /> Commission, that initial appointment shall be for a five year term.
