CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 2015—64 <br /> BY: Mayor Kennedy <br /> A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER AS <br /> PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH IN THE CITY <br /> OF NORTH OLMSTED, AND DECLARING AN <br /> EMERGENCY. <br /> WHEREAS, each year more than 29,000 men will die of prostate cancer in the United <br /> States; and <br /> WHEREAS, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death of U.S. men; and <br /> WHEREAS, if diagnosed early,the five-year survival rate is almost 100 percent; and <br /> WHEREAS, at ten years post diagnosis, 98 percent of men diagnosed early, remain alive; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, because one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their <br /> lifetime, it is important for men to become educated about this disease through conversations <br /> with their doctors. <br /> WHEREAS, this Council does wish to call attention to the seriousness of this disease and <br /> further wishes to encourage North Olmsted residents to renew their commitment to wellness <br /> through self-education about this disease and, additionally through routine medical appointments <br /> scheduled in pursuit of good health. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY,AND STATE OF OHIO: <br /> SECTION 1: This Council hereby designates September, 2015, as Prostate Cancer <br /> Awareness Month in the City of North Olmsted. <br /> SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br /> immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and for the <br /> reason that this legislation must go into effect immediately in order to be in effect for September <br /> 2015; and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of <br /> Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the <br /> Mayor. <br /> PASSED: _ r First Reading: {, , 2r�IS <br /> Second Reading: /] <br /> Third Reading: f UJC..( <br />
