A letter of communication to be read at the North Olmsted City Council meeting of 8/18/15
On July 30th, while business traveling out of state representing my primary employer, my
corporate email account was hacked. The hacker sent out a bogus email to approximately 500+
persons in my contact list.
The email had the appearance of a document being attached, with the recipient being asked to
sign and return the document. Further, the hacker deleted my contact list, preventing me from
identifying recipients and preventing me from sending out an email blast with instructions to
delete and disregard the email.
My company's IT Director thoroughly investigated the email and its origin, and deemed that it
posed no harm or risks, as it turned out.
Over the course of the next several days, many of the email recipients reached out to me, and
everyone was nothing short of understanding and sympathetic...with the exception of one
individual— Dennis Lambert. He never bothered to contact me.
Instead, on August 4th, Mr. Lambert sent an email to the owner of my primary employer, with a
statement regarding the consequences should any harm should come to his computer.
But Mr. Lambert didn't stop there. He also included in this email a "personal opinion" of me. In
his commentary, Mr. Lambert made statements to my employer such as "Mr. Brossard does not
appear to be very bright" and "contributes very little" and finally finishes with the statement "I
personally don't trust him and this email should be an indication of that".
One must ask, what kind of man writes such an email to someone's employer—their means of
livelihood -with clear intentions of harming their employment status? This sort of behavior is
reckless and childish. I have however used his behavior as a teaching moment, as an example
to my children on "how not to behave".
When I made the leap to public servant over 6 years ago, I fully understood that being in the
public eye comes with the occasional dose of criticism. I accept and embrace that. But what
Mr. Lambert did had absolutely nothing to do with City Council, nor my body of work as the
Ward 1 representative. It was malicious and completely uncalled for.
Just because he doesn't like me as a person or as a legislator, does not give him the right to
cross the line that he has crossed. This is a serious breach of ethics on his part. His actions
crossed a distinct line into my private life, where he clearly attempted to cause harm to my
livelihood and my family.
To quote Michael Gareau, Sr. earlier this year while addressing Mr. Lambert during a City
Council meeting—"you don't get a pass on this".
