The North Olmsted City School district embraces, encourages, and expects
all students to fulfill their academic potential and to be a part of the social
fabric of their schools regardless of the individual challenges they have.
Our students with disabilities often face seemingly insurmountable
challenges. Their natural determination and spirit — when combined with
nurturing and guidance from their families, friends, and our staff -
propels them to overcome the challenges they face.
We celebrate their accomplishments, help them realize their highest
potential, and pursue all avenues to participate as members of our school
community in ways that are meaningful to them as individuals.
It is heartwarming to see students at all levels respect, embrace, and support
their peers with disabilities, which only enhances individual character and
the culture of our district.
In the fall of 2015, the High School voted to elect a student with Down
Syndrome as their Homecoming King. (see attached photo)
Councilwoman Maryellen Hemann has the full support of the North Olmsted
City Schools for the resolution on behalf of students with disabilities and
notably students with Down Syndrome.
