CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 2016 — 99 By: Mayor Kennedy A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY ON BEHALF OF THE CITY TO APPLY FOR AN ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT FOR THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING FUNDS TOACQUIREA REPLACEMENT FIRE APPARATUS (TRUCK); FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, IF THE APPLICATION IS GRANTED, TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE APPROPRIATE AGENCY TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT FUNDS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security has invited application for the Assistance to Firefighters Grants ("AFG") Program; and WHEREAS, by and through grant funds, the North Olmsted Division of Fire desires to purchase a replacement firefighting apparatus (ladder truck); and WHEREAS, AFG grant awards aim to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public with respect to fire and other hazards. The grants enable local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations to obtain training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response vehicles; and WHEREAS, a 10% matching fund on the part of the City will be required and the cost is estimated to be One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00); and WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the Director of Public Safety on behalf of the City to apply for the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant to purchase the needed replacement truck, to further authorize the Mayor to accept the Grant, if awarded, and to execute a contract if required; and to authorize the Director of Public Safety / Mayor to execute all other documents necessary to effectuate receipt of the Grant. It should be noted that this is a joint application with the Olmsted Township Fire Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That the Director of Public Safety be and is hereby authorized to apply for the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant. SECTION 2: That the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized to accept the Grant, if awarded, on behalf of the City of North Olmsted and to execute a contract, if required; and that the Director of Public Safety be, and he hereby is, authorized to execute all other documents necessary to effectuate receipt of the Grant.
