CITY of NORTH OLMSTED
Mayor Kevin M. Kennedy
Pietro A. DiFranco, P.E., City Engineer I Division of Engineering
A 5200 Dover Center Road I North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 P 440-716-4118 F 440-777-5889
MEMO
Date: December 7, 2016
To: Don Glauner — Director of Public Safety & Service
From: Pietro DiFranco - City Engineer
Re: Springvale Pond Dredging -2017
Notes:
1. Request For Quotes were distributed to four (4) qualified contractors on 12/08/16, who have
recent past successful experience working for the City of North Olmsted and/or recently
submitted bids (including Statements of Qualifications) for the Pine Drainage Basin
Improvement project. Following is a summary of the quotes received on 01/04/17:
Contractor
Quantity Unit Price Total
(Cubic Yards) ($/CY) ($)
Earliest
Start Date
Days to
Complete
Fabrizi
4,000 $12.00 $48,000
01/16/17
15 days
Mark Haynes
3,000 $16.00 $48,000
02/06/17
15 days
Nerone
Respectfully declined to bid due to their current busy workload.
KMU Trucking
No Response.
2. Following is a summary of my phone conversation with Alex DeNegris, of Fabrizi:
a. Alex visited the site and is familiar with existing conditions. He understands measures
(i.e. berm, silt fence/sock, etc.) will be needed to prevent spoils from entering stream.
b. The type and quantity of equipment to be used is dependent on type of material being
excavated and temperatures at the time. Ideally, the ground will be frozen so a dozer
and excavator can be placed within the pond, to feed another excavator located outside
the pond, which will load multiple off-road trucks.
c. Fabrizi accounted for a bypass pump to handle flow within the stream.
d. Quantities will be measured based on the size of buckets and trucks used, and cross-
checked with an area and depth calculation.
e. Fabrizi understands the project is subject to prevailing wages requirements.
Recommendation: Based on the quotes received, past successful experience working for the city,
& my recent phone interview, I recommend contract award to Fabrizi Trucking & Paving Co.. Inc.
with the best and lowest bid. Award of the contract is needed ASAP so work can be performed over
Winter to avoid disturbance to Golf Course operations.
WWW.NORTH-OLMSTED.COM ---
